LOOKING FOR AN EXPERIENCE LIKE NO OTHER?
Come relax at the Loon Straits Wilderness Retreat situated on the east shores of majestic Lake Winnipeg. Located within the borders of the only protected UNESCO World Heritage Site within Manitoba, our unique area is known for deep boreal forests, incredible wildlife and untouched wilderness.
The Ojibwe name for this area is Pimachiowin Aki (pim MATCH – o win – a KEH) which means “Land that gives life” and “Living the good life on the Land”. It is the perfect name for this place; a place where nature and culture come together and are inseparable.
Built in 2013, our light-filled, open-concept main cottage, entitled Angie’s Place, is designed for gathering, relaxing, and reconnecting. Inside you’ll find two cozy bedrooms, one full bath, and a welcoming living/dining/kitchen space perfect for storytelling after a day outdoors. The sunroom and wraparound deck offer sweeping water views that never get old.
Our second cabin – lovingly named The Lilypad, is a tiny waterfront abode, perfect for a couples” romantic getaway, a small family, or for the solo traveler just looking for some sweet R & R.
Rent Angie’s Place, the Lilypad, or both for a larger family or group!
Just under three scenic hours north of Winnipeg — and a drive so stunning it feels like part of the adventure — you’ll find Loon Straits, a true hidden gem. Miles from the rush of civilization (with just a couple of friendly locals nearby so you won’t feel stranded!), this is the kind of place where you can truly exhale.

ANGIE’S PLACE – INTERIOR
And the real magic? It’s outside your door.
Start your morning with coffee on the deck as the sun rises over the lake. Spend your afternoons launching a canoe, kayak or fishing boat from your private dock and boat launch just steps away. Watch pelicans glide by, eagles soar overhead, and keep your camera ready — you might spot beavers, muskrats, foxes, the occasional moose, or even a bear in the distance.
Fire up the BBQ, sip wine at sunset, sway in the hammock, or supervise cannonballs from the rocks. Play bocce ball on the lawn, stretch into a lakeside yoga session, work on your tan, or gather around a crackling campfire under a sky bursting with stars.
Whether you’re here for fishing, paddling, wildlife watching, forest wandering, or simply unplugging from the noise of everyday life, this is more than a getaway — it’s an experience.
Come discover what “Living the good life on the Land” truly feels like.
THE LILYPAD – and The Lotus
Tiny cabin. Big adventure.
Welcome to The Lilypad — our 10 x 20 foot waterfront escape designed for dreamers, explorers, and anyone ready to trade ordinary for unforgettable. Just steps from the water, this little cabin proves that the best adventures come in small packages.
Roll up the glass garage door and let the outside in — panoramic bay views, fresh lake breezes, and wildlife drifting past like your own private nature show. Spend slow mornings lounging in bed with coffee in hand, watching pelicans glide and the sun sparkle on the water.
Outside, your large covered deck is mission control for lakeside living: sunset cocktails, barefoot dancing, campfire stories, and spontaneous cannonballs.
And when night falls? Wander beneath the branches of an ancient pine to The Lotus — our dreamy stargazing glamping tent. With plush rugs, floor pillows, and a queen-sized bed beneath a clear top, it’s made for snuggling, late-night whispers, and falling asleep under a sky full of stars.
The Lilypad isn’t just a stay — it’s a tiny, lakeside adventure waiting to happen.

“Great place! Don’t let the remote location stop you from booking at this hidden gem. The cabin was amazing and comfortable. Everything was ready, jugs of water, firewood and kindling, kitchen with seasonings and essentials. Fishing was great! We caught a whole bunch off the channel a short walk away. The few people we ran into were super friendly. Had an amazing time.”

About Me

Hi! I’m Sharon — and welcome to Loon Straits Wilderness Retreat 💛
Angie’s Place was built by my Aunt Angie in 2013, and I’ve had the joy of caring for it since 2017. The land itself has been in our family for generations, and my parents still live nearby, happily soaking up the peace and wild beauty that make this place so special. The Lilypad was added in 2025 and has now become a favorite!
Some of my favorite memories have been made right here — long summer evenings, laughter on the deck, morning coffee with a view, and that deep exhale that only happens when you’re truly away from it all. Every friend and family member who visits falls in love with the natural beauty, the comfort of the cabins, and the feeling of being wonderfully removed from everyday stress.
After years of hosting the people I love most, I decided it was time to open the doors and share this special place with others who are craving a little adventure, a little quiet, and a whole lot of fresh air.
If you’re ready to unplug, unwind, and experience the magic for yourself, I’d absolutely love to host you. Come stay awhile — you might just fall in love with it too.
